Time Management Tips for SAT Reading

Effective time management is crucial in the SAT Reading section. At Peak Learning Solutions, our teachers are well versed in the most efficient and well researched strategies to equip your child with valuable time management tips during their preparation.

Our teachers (we call ourselves teachers because we are all teachers first unlike most tutors and tutoring organizations) will educate your child on the recommended timing for each passage. We will emphasize allocating approximately 13 minutes per passage, including both reading and answering questions. Four minutes should be dedicated to reading the passage, with the remaining time used to answer the questions. If your child finds themselves spending too much time on a particular passage, we will teach them to move on and return to it later, time permitting.

We will guide your child to skim the passage before diving into the questions. By quickly reading the introduction and conclusion, as well as glancing through the body paragraphs, your child will gain an understanding of the main ideas and organization of the passage. This will enable them to locate specific information more efficiently while answering the questions.

When answering the questions, we will instruct your child to focus on finding direct evidence in the passage to support their answers. We will caution them against answer choices that may sound correct but lack direct evidence. Our teachers (we call ourselves teachers because we are all teachers first unlike most tutors and tutoring organizations) will emphasize the importance of eliminating any answers that cannot be supported by the passage.

If your child is running short on time, we will advise them to prioritize the questions based on difficulty level. Starting with the easier questions that they can answer quickly and confidently, they can leave the more challenging or time-consuming questions for later. Our teachers (we call ourselves teachers because we are all teachers first unlike most tutors and tutoring organizations) will remind them to mark those questions and return to them if time permits.
